CHS Costume Relays Feb 6

COLCHESTER NIGHT RELAYS
This is a Costume Race. So Dress up!
Where: Colchester High School fields.
What:  Skate relay.
When: Thursday February 6th, 2014.   JV Boys at 4:15 with JV Girls following, then Varsity boys, Varsity Girls.  The lights will be on. 
Race:  The race is approximately a 1.5km loop, with each skier doing alternating loops.
Teams of 2 Skiers
The JV racers will do two loops each.
Varsity Racers will do 3 loops each
Schools Attending: MMU, BHS, Essex, CVU, Harwood, SB, SoRo, Montpelier

Friday, Jan 31 BFA Night Relays

Dismissal at 2:00 bus at 2:15- you need to be prompt!
Place: Moved to Dickinsons take a right at the 4 corners off exit 19, then take another right onto Rt. 36 at the next four corners, head up and over the hill and look for Button road also a right. Parking will be immediately on the left. You will then ski or hike to the course located about a 1/4mile from the parking area. A portoilet will be located in the parking area. 
Format: 3 person freestyle relay team. Each racer does 2 laps, tagging each lap with skier 1 skiing the first and fourth leg, skier 2 the second and fifth, skier 3 the third and sixth.
Schedule will be:
Girls Varsity at 3:15, Boys will follow after the last girl finishes, Followed by the JV races. If daylight becomes an issue we may run JV kids 1 lap per skier. A rough schedule will be Girls Varsity 3:15, Boys Varsity 3:40, Girls JV 4:05, Boys JV 4:35
Teams: Fairfax, Burlington, CVU, Essex, Middlebury,
Course: TBA, We will keep it under or around 3 minutes a lap for an average Varsity skier.

Teams: BFAS, BFAF, CVU, MMU, BHS, CHS, Middlebury, Essex, SBHS
Site: Rikert Nordic Ski Center
Style: Classic
Start time: 10:00 am, Mass start for middle school racers, girls then boys 3 minutes apart.  trail and snow conditions.
Divisions and Distances: Varsity-5km, J.V. and Middle School-3km

Registration: Bib pickup starting at 9:30am. 
** Middle school registration is strictly day-of, by noon ** 
Course: 5.5km Varsity, 3km JV & MS 
Varsity 2 laps; JV & MS 1 lap. 
Start lanes will be assigned for each team. Number of lanes per team will depend on conditions day of. 
**Please no skiing on course from 5 min. before until 10 min. after each start.** 
Use of the restrooms and facilities at Rikert is of course welcome, but there is limited space in the touring center so please keep belongings on your bus.
Bus parking at the south end of the parking lot against the pine trees.

Friday, Jan 17 MMU Continuous Pursuits at the Range

BUS LEAVES CVU AT: 1:00 BUS IS DROP OFF ONLY- you need you're own ride home, talk to the coaches if you need a ride!
 Directions to Ethan Allen Range (when you get there drive straight into national guard site, then veer right on Barracks Rd up hill to top where race site is- you will have to walk to the start of the race
Schools Attending: MMU, CVU, WHS, Stowe, SB, NCU, LI, BFAS, U32, ESX, CHS, StJ, BHS, MIDD
Schedule:         2:00-3:00pm              Registration, Walker Building
 3:30pm                       Girls Classic/Freestyle Pursuit – mass start
 4:30pm                       Boys Classical/Freestyle Pursuit – mass start
  5:30pm                       Girls JV Freestyle Race – mass start
 6:00pm                       Boys JV Freestyle Race – mass start
 6:45pm                       Awards (pies and cookies)
Due to current conditions, Varsity Races are limited to 10 racers per gender per school  JV Races are limited to 10 racers per gender per school
Race Format:    Each team will have 1 start lane assigned on race day. JV races will be 1 lap, freestyle only.  All Varsity racers will begin race with 2-3km classic race.  Top 30 racers into start/finish area will proceed to designated “team corral” to exchange equipment at their discretion and continue 2-3km freestyle race.   Top 30 places will be determined at completion of freestyle race.  Classic racers who miss cut will finish at Timing Shack and be given a classic race time only.  Race will be scored by top 4 skiers per school at completion of freestyle race using classic results if necessary.  All race loops for each race will be the same (JV Skate, V Classic, V Skate).
  • Corrals will labeled and have rugs for skiers to stand or place equipment on.
  • Seed skiers in order they are to line up for mass start.
  • There are enough climbs to spread field out during classic race, however, the downhill leaving stadium area will be hectic.  Please discuss sportsmanship expectations with your racers.
  • Classic Course TBD, approx distance 3km.  Tracks will be set on outside of race course, skiers may classic ski anywhere on trail. 
  • Freestyle Course TBD, approx distance 3km.  Middle lane of race course will be groomed for skating.
  • Course Marshals will be on course for classic and freestyle race.
  • Please police your area and clean up trash.  There will be designated team areas inside Walker Building.
  • Team scores will be calculated and printed in the Burlington Free Press for Saturday.  All results will be emailed to coaches Friday evening.
  • Concession Stand will be open, plan for dinner and great snacks on site.
  • Prizes!  Pies for top V boys and girls.  Bags of cookies for top JV finishers!

Saturday, Jan 11 at Ethan Allen Training Range in Jericho- CLASSIC

 The Walker building (warming hut) will NOT be available for use on Saturday.  We will have a team tent- if you have an e-z up tent please email Sarah- we might need it!
Schedule of Races: 
Varsity: Varsity Boys 9:45 sharp, and then Varsity Girls to follow immediately, (10:15 ish - will depend on the exact number of racers).
JV: JV Boys 11:00 sharp, then JV Girls to follow, (11:25 ish)
Starting Format
For each race, two skiers will be started every 30 seconds.  
Race Course Distances:
Due to conditions they only have a 2k loop available, they will also NOT be able to set tracks. 
2 kilometer loop.    
Due to this change race distances will be as follows
Varsity: 3 loops (6 kilometers)     
JV: 2 loops (4 kilometers)

Friday, Jan 10 BFA St. Albans

 List of who is racing  Coaches attending: Sarah and King
Place: Hard’ack Get of exit 19 in St.Albans, take a right at the first light, go straight through the second, then turn left onto congress street, Hard'ack is an immediate right.
Format: Approximately 5k SKATE for varsity, approximately 2.5k SKATE for JV.  We are planning a mass start, on a 2.5 k loop. Teams can line up in any order in assigned lanes.
Times: 3:15 Varsity boys, 3:17 Varsity Girls. JV Boys followed by JV girls to start at the conclusion of the Varsity race at approximately 3:45

Thursday, Jan 9 - Stowe MOVED TO TRAPPS

RACE VENUE:  Trapp Family Lodge
STYLE:  SKATE- this is a change        MASS START IN WAVES
RACE COURSES:  last 2.5k loop of racing 7.5k race course
START TIMES:   (Note: JV race waves to completion before next level race begins.  Times are not exact.)
Keep alert as there is no loud announcing system and starts will happen whether you are on the line or not.

ELEVEN SCHOOL TEAMS: 
CVU, LI, Harwood, St. J, NCU, U-32, Mont, PA, Craftsbury, Lamoille, Stowe
REGISTRATION:  Will take place inside the Yurt Warming Shelter next to the Touring Center                   Starting at 2PM.
 Limited facilities space, so please plan on keeping personal gear on bus/ in vehicles.
